What is Frutiger Aero?

Frutiger Aero is an aesthetic used to describe the future or futuristic products, and was mainy used in the 2000s, before being taken over by Frutiger Metro. Frutiger Aero comprises aquatic animals, glossy textures, real-world counterparts for popular programs, lens flares, Frutiger fonts or sans-serif typefaces, and bright colors, typically blue or green. This design was coined in 2017 by Sofie Lee of the Consumer Aesthetics Research Institute and was named after Adrian Frutiger. The CARI is a community of people who gather to record the visual aesthetics of everyday products.

Frutiger Aero in Media

Cartoons, television shows, and other media showcase this genre. Walt Disney's 2007 film Meet the Robinsons presents this fashion. This movie involves a child named Lewis getting pulled away in a time machine and spending a day in the future. As a result, he ends up in a city called Todayland. Todayland is depicted as a land full of imagination, creativity, and happiness. It is also a place where technology is highly advanced. Buildings are shown to have a resemblance to big, populated cities such as New York In 2023, Redditor Chubsa9 on r/FrutigerAero posted in this subreddit, asking why a certain song is nostalgic and goes perfectly with the Frutiger Aero style. This song is Lease by Takeshi Abo and is used in many videos and clips talking or showing pictures about Frutiger Aero. This song originates from a video game called "My Merry May", and has many other songs in its soundtrack. However, the Redditor states that Lease gives, quote, "the most Aero [song] to me. It's a warm, inviting melody that transports you to 2007 with its very first note." User Stormister agrees with them, saying it makes them feel like they're waiting in a doctor's office. They also point out that the low-quality effect the song has could also add to this.
